Our DuraClean tiles are made from UV Stabilized 1/8" (.125") thick vinyl plastic. This durable tile is perfect for industrial and commercial areas like; bottling and food processing plants, food preparation areas, schools, dorms, daycare, and educational facilities. Constructed from 100% PVC Vinyl, our DuraClean tiles are Class A Fire Rated and can be washed over and over without any damage to them. Backed by our 25 Year ProShield Warranty, DuraClean tiles are built for a lifetime of use.
Designed to fit all standard 15/16" - 1" T-Bar Ceiling Systems. Most of the thermoform ceiling tiles come in two sizes, 2'x2' and 2'x4'.
FYI - If you have a 2x4 grid ceiling, but would prefer the look of the 2x2 ceiling tiles, simply insert a 2' center T bar available online or at most local hardware stores...it's easy!
Installation Requirements
DuraClean panels can quickly and easily fit into almost any ceiling grid system. Available in the same size as any typical 2' x 2' ceiling tile, it can be the uncomplicated replacement for the tiles that are seen and found in any typical office locale. There are some grids that use a "stab and connect" system that may cause the corners of the tile to sit higher than the rest of the tile.
When installing DuraClean tiles in ceilings with sprinkler systems, leave at least a 1/4" gap around the edge of the sprinkler bezel to the tile. This allows the tile to fall away from the ceiling during a fire and not foul the sprinkler system.
To cut any DuraClean panel, mark and score the face of the tile with a utility knife and snap it away from the cut. A skill or table saw can also be used in cutting multiple tiles at once and a RotoZip or hole-saw for odd sizes shapes and circular holes - like sprinkler heads or can lights.
Use a mild soap and water solution or most household cleaners to clean the DuraClean ceiling tiles. Just spray the cleaner onto a clean rag and wipe. Power-washing DuraClean panels is also an option, but avoid placing the spray nozzle tip too close to the panel in order to prevent damage to the tile face. The tiles are unaffected by most corrosive chemicals, but you should avoid using acidic cleaners. Do not use abrasive cleansers to scrub.
Highlights:
Things happen; leaks in the roof, cooking mishaps, kids, we get it! All of these things can lead to stained tiles. Since the DuraClean tiles are mold/mildew resistant and washable, stains are easy to clean and you wont have to worry about replacing them repeatedly! You have the option of installing them in the grid alone, or putting them directly under existing acoustic tiles, and you can lay regular insulation right on top of the tile. Also, because the DuraClean is flat, these tiles are easily cut so they are perfect for using in rooms with partial tiles around the perimeter. Whats not to love?

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Tools Required
- Tape Measure
- Pencil or Wax Pencil
- Straight edge
- Razor knife or fine tooth saw
- Gloves
- Eye Protection
Protective Film & Static
We recommend waiting to remove the protective film until just before you place the tile into the grid. This will protect the surface from minor damage as well as fingerprints. You should try to minimize rubbing or dragging the tiles across each other during handling and installation. PVC is really good at building up static electricity when rubbed together. If your tiles are retaining a static charge after removing the protective film, you can dissipate this charge by using a dryer fabric softener sheet or damp cloth and sweeping it across the surface of the tile.
Reusing Your Old Tiles
Have old tiles still in good condition? Reuse them to add heat and sound insulation as well as support regular insulation above your new tiles by just sliding your DuraClean tile into place below your existing tile, leaving the existing tile in place.
Alternatively, you can push your existing tiles up out of place and turn them slightly to rest on top of the grid system. Watch our video
NOTE: this is likely not compliant with commercial building codes, so verify if this is an option.
Insulation Above Tiles - 4 Methods
Due to the DuraClean's thin construction, thicker fiberglass insulation may be too heavy be laid on top. Be sure to test a few tiles before doing your full installation, to make sure there is no bowing or deflection of the tile. If the tiles deflect and insulation above your ceiling tiles is important, you have a few options:
- Our SoniGuard insulation is remarkably lightweight, and specifically designed to work above our tiles.
- Support on your old tiles (see above).
- Place 1x1 or 1x2 wood furring strips across the top of the grid to use as support for insulation.
- Secure the insulation to the "real ceiling" of your space, leaving the tops of the tiles clear of any need to support weight.
Install Full Tiles First!
Place all of the full sized tiles first so you can:
- Verify that your grid is properly aligned/spaced prior to cutting partial tiles.
- Set aside any tiles with damaged corners to use for border/partial tiles. We ALWAYS gladly replace any tiles damaged in shipping, but if you need to cut tiles for border tiles, you'll end up cutting off 2 corners anyways. This can save you time, save the environment, and help you complete your project perfectly without waiting for replacements.
Cutting Border / Partial Tiles
Mark measurements on the back side of the tile with a pencil or grease pencil. Use a metal straightedge and score the tile several times, then bend at the score line to snap. You can also use a powered saw with a fine-toothed blade. Always make a test cut first.
FAQ - Recessed/Can/'Puck' Lights
As with all tiles, you must choose lights that have grid mounting brackets so that the weight of a traditional can light is supported by the grid system and not the tile .
Place your light fixture and tile in the grid system. Adjust the light to its final position and mark this on the backside of your tile. Use the template to mark the hole in the tile (usually the light bezel itself will be close if no template is available). Use a Dremel tool or something similar to cut out the hole.
In testing of our DuraClean tiles with a few of the newer, clip-in "puck" style of LED light, they were able to bear the weight of a single light without deflecting or deforming. Be sure to test a few tiles first before proceeding. Each type of light, its driver, and installation project is different, so we cannot guarantee results and using the tile in this fashion will void its warranty.
We strongly advise you to review your local building codes and light installation instructions before installing the lights. You may be required to attach the light and/or driver to the structure of the building. We are not responsible for any issues that may arise when mounting lights or other objects directly to the ceiling tile.
Caution
Unshielded fixtures, especially those using halogen lighting, present a risk of fire or melting the tiles.
FAQ - 120°F Max Temperature
Our DuraClean tiles are designed to operate in temperatures up to 120F. Higher temperatures can happen around heat registers, above stoves and ovens, around high temperature lighting, and in environments that intentionally have higher temperatures, like heat spas and Hot Yoga/Bikram studios. Contact us if your space may be subjected to any of these conditions.
